Cop rescues beaver from Cortland Walmart parking lot

CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. — Decisive action taken by a Cortland County sheriff's deputy earlier today helped a local rodent get out of a sticky situation.

On Thursday, Officer Jason Kemp responded to a report of a beaver in the Walmart parking lot on Bennie Road.

The beaver was wandering near the store entrance when Kemp arrived.

Using a shopping cart tipped on its side, Kemp was able to "scoop up" the beaver, turning the cart upright with the beaver safely inside.

The beaver was safely transported and released to a nearby pond, the sheriff's office said.
