CORTLAND, N.Y. — Friends and family are "shocked and deeply saddened" by the loss of Luis Colon, a Cortland resident and SUNY Cortland alum who died suddenly several days ago.

Colon, who was 30 years old, worked as an instructional support assistant at the SUNY Cortland Memorial Library.

The GoFundMe organizer, Anthony Refino, says he was a close friend of Colon.

"Luis Colon was quite possibly the brightest of all souls," Refino said. "He was the light in a dark sky for so many people around him. He has impacted so many lives in a positive way."

"For those of you who knew Luis from childhood, was anyone more well-known and loved? For those of you that went to Cortland, how many sentences into a new conversation with a Cortland Alumni did you say "Wait, do you know Luis?"

The funds raised will be used to pay for funeral and memorial services arranged by Colon's family, Refino said. Any remaining dollars generated by the campaign will be donated to the village of Hastings-on-Hudson and the SUNY Cortland Memorial Library to help commemorate Colon's life.
