Cortland man arrested on drug charges after falling off bike

Name: Matthew C. Hudson

Location: 170 Port Watson Street, Cortland

Summary: At around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, city police responded to the area of 170 Port Watson Street regarding a person falling off his bicycle. Officers arrested 27-year-old Matthew C. Hudson, of Cortland, for criminally using drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, and possession of a hypodermic instrument, a violation. Hudson had a needle and a scale, which he said he used to weigh his drugs, police said. He was released to appear at a later date.

Arrest made in connection with dumpster fire

Name: Andrew T. Shutt

Location: Elm Street, Cortland

Summary: At around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, police arrested 19-year-old Andrew T. Shutt on a felony charge of attempted arson. Police allege that on the evening of April 23, Shutt placed a garbage bag next to a home on Elm Street and attempted to light the bag on fire. He was released to appear in court at a later date.

Man accused of stealing cellphone from vehicle

Name: Azzat M. Ibrahim

Location: Madison Street, Cortland

Summary: Ibrahim was arrested in the early morning hours Tuesday for allegedly stealing a cellphone from a vehicle on Madison Street. He faces a misdemeanor charge of criminal possession of stolen property. According to Lt. Richard Troyer with the Cortland Police Department, several vehicles were entered in the area of Madison Street and Maple Avenue. Anyone who had their vehicle entered should contact city police at 753-3001.

Dryden pair charged with shoplifting

Name(s): Olivia E. Jackson; Tamara J.S. Montgomery

Location: Walmart, Bennie Road, Cortlandville

Summary: At around 7:30 p.m. Monday, the pair was charged with stealing approximately $120 worth of food from the Cortland Walmart. They were each charged with petit larceny and conspiracy, both misdemeanors.

McGraw man accused of violating order of protection

Name: Carl J. Chaffee

Location: Town of Homer

Summary: At around 10:57 a.m. Friday, officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle on Parks Road, in the Town of Homer, after officers observed 49-year-old Carl Chaffee leaving the Cortland County Landfill while violating a court order of protection. Chaffee was arrested and charged with criminal contempt for having a passenger in his vehicle that had an active order of protection against him. He was taken into custody and arraigned in the Town of Homer Court.

Cops: Man threatened to kill woman and her children

Name: Edward J. Grant

Location: Port Watson Street, Cortland

Summary: At around 9:30 p.m. Friday, police allege that 37-year-old Edward J. Grant called a 25-year-old female and threatened to kill her and her children. He was charged with aggravated harassment, a misdemeanor.

Woman charged with drug possession

Name: Laurieann Nielsen

Location: Cortland

Summary: At around 3:50 p.m. Friday, police arrested the 38-year-old woman after she was driving with a damaged windshield. Police found a small amount of heroin in her possession.

Woman pretended to be sheriff's deputy, police say

Name: Elizabeth A. Kuhn

Location: Main Street, Cortland

Summary: At around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police allege that Elizabeth A. Kuhn went the wrong way on Main Street. Kuhn is accused of telling police that she was a Cayuga County sheriff's deputy. She was charged with aggravated DWI and criminal impersonation of a public servant.

Woman pretended to be sheriff's deputy, police say

Name: Nicholas J. Baldassare

Location: Elm Street, Cortland

Summary: At around 6:45 a.m. Sunday, police arrested 26-year-old Nicholas Baldassare on charges of criminal obstruction of breathing, a misdemeanor; second-degree burglary, a felony; and criminal contempt in the first degree, a felony. Police allege that on the evening of May 4, Baldassare went to a residence on Elm Street and unlawfully entered the residence of a 25-year old -female who had a valid order of protection against him and choked her.
