Cortland man charged with rape, sexual misconduct

Matthew G. Rupe, 31, of Kellogg Road in Cortland (Cortland County Sheriff's Office)

CORTLAND, N.Y. — A man turned himself into authorities Tuesday evening for his alleged involvement in a sexual relationship with a teenage girl more than two years ago.

On April 17, the sheriff's office received a criminal complaint from a person who stated that she had sexual relations with 31-year-old Matthew G. Rupe when she was 15 years old.

After looking into the complaint, investigators learned that the sexual relationship began in November 2015 and lasted until February 2016.

Rupe turned himself into the Cortland County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. He was charged with third-degree rape, a class E felony, along with three counts of sexual misconduct and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.

Following his arraignment, Rupe was released to the supervision of the Alternatives to Incarceration program.

He is scheduled to appear in Taylor Town Court on May 16.
