Severe thunderstorm watch in effect Wednesday night

CORTLAND, N.Y. — A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Cortland County until 11 p.m. Wednesday.

At 7:30 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a thunderstorm over Scott, about 10 miles north of Cortland, moving east at 45 mph.

Half-inch hail and strong wind gusts are possible, according to the National Weather Service. A trained spotter reported pea size hail with this storm.

Locations impacted include Cortland, Homer, Ithaca, Virgil, Preble, Scott, Truxton, and Locke.

Forecasters said lightning is occurring with this storm.
