Cincinnatus driver charged after crashing truck into telephone pole

Some residents in the village of McGraw were awakened by a crash early Tuesday morning.

Cortland County sheriff’s deputies responded to a one-car crash on Route 41 in McGraw at around 5:30 a.m.

The driver, 38-year-old Melissa G. Wallace, of Cincinnatus, was traveling east on Route 41 when she struck two utility poles at the intersection of Main Street and Clinton Street, according to Lt. Karl Altmann with the county sheriff’s office.

Deputies determined she was found to be driving while her ability was impaired by drugs. They also charged her with drug possession after finding a narcotic drug in her vehicle without its original container.

Wallace, who was not injured in the crash, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of driving while ability impaired by drugs and criminal possession of a controlled substance, along with several vehicle and traffic infractions.
