Cortland man arrested twice in two days
Name: Jeffrey S. Craig
Location: Route 13, Town of Truxton; Route 13, Town of Homer
Summary: On June 20, at about 5:36 p.m., New York State Police at Homer arrested 41-year-old Jeffrey S. Craig, of Cortland, for the misdemeanor of operating a motor vehicle while ability impaired by drugs. Troopers were called to a person acting erratically in the town of Truxton. Troopers learned Craig drove to a residence on Route 13 in Truxton. Troopers observed signs of impairment as they spoke to Craig. After an investigation, Craig was arrested. He was released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Truxton Court.
On June 21, 2018, at approximately 4:20 a.m., officers responded to a reported one-car crash involving a pedestrian on Route 13 in Homer. According to sheriff's deputies, Craig was walking in the middle of Route 13 when he was struck by a pickup truck traveling south. Craig was not injured in the crash, and only minor damage to the pickup truck was reported. Craig was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and issued traffic citations for walking in the roadway and not facing walking traffic. He is duein Homer Town Court July 10.
Cops: Man damaged iPhone, televison
Name: Nicholas S. Partis
Location: Port Watson Street, City of Cortland
Summary: On June 19, 2018, at about 8 a.m., 31-year-old Nicholas Partis damaged a television and iPhone belonging to a 55-year-old female at a a residence on Port Watson Street, police said. He was charged with criminal mischief and jailed on $1,000 bail.
Cortland man charged with drug possession after traffic stop
Name: Christopher J. Duers
Location: Lincoln Avenue, City of Cortland
Summary: On Thursday, June 21, at 1 a.m., 23-year-old Christopher J. Duers was stopped on Lincoln Avenue for driving without a license. He ran from police and had a needle and heroin in his possession, police said. He was charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, possession of a hypodermic instrument, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
DWI charge for Dryden man
Name: Derrick Rowser
Location: Route 13, Town of Dryden
Summary: On June 17, 2018, at about 11:30 p.m., troopers observed 57-year-old Derrick Rowser crossing over the double yellow line while on Route 13 in the town of Dryden. He was also observed turning his headlights on and off while he drove down the road. Rowser was stopped and an investigation revealed he was impaired. He was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Cortland man arrested after fight
Name: Clayton S. Lawson
Location: Park Street, City of Cortland
Summary: On June 9, 2018, at about 9 p.m., 27-year-old Clayton S. Lawson became involved in a physical altercation with a 27-year-old male at a residence on Park Street and struck the male several times with a closed fist. The victim received a fracture to the right orbital bone and was taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment. Lawson was charged with first-degree assault, a felony, jailed without bail.
