Cuyler man charged with illegal weapons possession

CUYLER, N.Y. — Illegal weapons were found in a man's home Wednesday night while police were serving an arrest warrant in the town of Cuyler, according to the Cortland County Sheriff's Office.

At around 7:45 p.m, officers from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office went to the home of 33-year-old Pablo A. Rodriguez to serve an arrest warrant for an undisclosed matter. The sheriff's office said it was unrelated to the illegal gun charges.

As Rodriguez was being arrested, sheriff's deputies found two shotguns inside his home, one of which had its serial number removed, a news release said.

Rordriguez is not authorized to possess any firearms or long guns due to previous convictions, according to Lt. Karl Altmann with the Cortland County Sheriff's Office. He was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and taken into custody without incident.

Arraignment took place in Cuyler Town Court. Rodriguez was remanded to the Cortland County Jail without bail.

Charges: Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class D Felony); Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
