CORTLAND, N.Y. — The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a heat advisory from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Heat index values will range between 95 to 100 degrees this afternoon due to temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s.

The hottest temperatures will peak in the afternoon into the early evening.

Heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside.

Additional statements will be issued as conditions warrant.
