Three arrested following disturbance

Name(s): Derek W. Marshall; Matthew J. Sweeting; Joshua J. Sweeting

Location: Shackham Road, Town of Truxton

Summary: On June 29, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office responded to a physical altercation on Shackham Road in the town of Truxton, where a 16-year-old victim was pushed to the ground by Joshua Sweeting after a verbal argument at the residence, authroties said. This caused the victim to fall and strike their back. During the incident, Matthew Sweeting joined the altercation and brandished a machete, menacing the victim. The victim left the residence and reported the incident to police. All three men were arrested, processed and taken to Truxton Town Court for arraignment.

Freetown woman arrested following crash

Name: Leslie A. Smyth

Location: Freetown Cross Road, Town of Freetown

Summary: On May 28, at around 7 p.m., officers from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office responded to Freetown Cross Road in the town of Freetown for a one-car crash into a utility pole. Leslie A. Smyth, 51, was traveling at an unsafe speed when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a NYSEG telephone police, the sheriff's office said. She was uninjured in the crash and was found to be intoxicated, authorities said. She was arrested for driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

DWAI charge for Little York man

Name: Daniel S. Olsovsky

Location: Route 13, Town of Cortlandville

Summary: On July 1, at around 3:34 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle being driven by 58-year-old Daniel S. Olsovsky on Route 13 in the town of Cortlandville for inadequate lights. Officers determined he was driving while his ability was impaired by drugs. He was also found to be in possession of marijuana and an open container of alcohol. He was arrested, processed, and later released to a third party.

Cortland man charged with assault

Name: Omar S. Harris-Raible

Location: Elm Street, City of Cortland

Summary: At about 11 p.m Tuesday, 39-year-old Omar S. Harris-Raible choked a 30-year-old female while there was a valid order of protection against him, police said. He left the residence and returned July 4 at about 6:30 a.m. and kicked and punched the same victim several times, authorities said. The victim was treated at Cortland Regional Medical Center and released. Harris-Raible was charged with two counts of felony criminal contempt, two counts of misdemeanor criminal obstruction of breathing, and one count of misdemeanor assault. He was jailed on $2,500 cash bail.

Man left the scene of an accident, police say

Name: Justin A. Kelly

Location: Elm Street, City of Cortland

At about 7 p.m. Wednesday, 26-year-old Justin A. Kelly was backing a vehicle out of a driveway when he backed into another vehicle and left the scene, police said. He was located a short distance away, at which point he lied to police about his identity, authorities said. He was charged with false personation, a misdemeanor, and several vehicle and traffic violations. He was released to appear in court on July 20.

 

DeRuyter woman charged with DWI

Name: Melissa J. Parker

Location: Route 13, Town of Cuyler

Summary: On June 28, at around 8:50 p.m., officers from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle being driven by 46-year-old Melissa Parker on Route 13 in the town of Cuyler. She was found to be intoxicated and in possession of marijuana and an open container of alcohol, authorities said.
