Cortland man charged with burglary

CORTLAND, N.Y. — A Cortland man is accused of burglarizing a home in the town of Cortlandville.

At around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a home on Delaware Avenue in Cortlandville for a reported burglary in progress.

Officers arrived to find 23-year-old Andrew Phillips, who is known to the homeowner, authorities said. Phillips reportedly entered the home without permission and broke several items while in the residence.

Phillips was charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony; criminal mischief, a misdemeanor; and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, a misdemeanor.

He was taken to Cortland County Jail on $2,000 cash bail.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible, the sheriff's office said.
