Cortland weather: Rain, thunderstorms kick off the weekend

Showers and thunderstorms will cross the area throughout the day Friday, with some storms producing heavy rain and gusty winds.

The most active period will be Friday afternoon and evening with thunderstorms expected, increasing the risk for flash flooding. As of 10 a.m. Friday, no flood advisories or watches have been issued.

The threat of inclement weather has already led to the cancellation of the annual Magic on Main event in the village of Homer.

Organizers of the hugely popular Phish festival, held each year in Watkins Glen, decided to cancel the event due to weather and health concerns.

Temperatures will fall into the upper 60s tonight. Conditions turn drier on Saturday, with highs in the mid 70s, and will persist through the beginning of next week.
