Cortland man charged with felony weapons possession

Neceya D. Cody, 36, of Cortland (Cortland County Sheriff's Office)

CORTLAND, N.Y. — A Cortland man was arrested Saturday after reportedly driving with a suspended driver's license and illegally carrying a weapon.

In the early morning hours Saturday, officers from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office made a vehicle and traffic stop in the town of Cortlandville.

Officers found the driver, 36-year-old Neceya D. Cody, was driving with a suspended license. He also gave officers a false name to try and avoid arrest, authorities said.

Cody was in possession of an unnamed controlled substance, as well as a Billy Club. Due to Cody's criminal history, he was forbidden from carrying the club.

Cody was arrested and charged with felony criminal weapons possession, as well as criminal impersonation, vehicle and traffic violations, and drug possession, among other charges.

He was arraigned in Town of Cortlandville Court on Sept. 29 on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to reappear in court Oct. 1.
