Cortland police arrest three in Main Street brawl

The City of Cortland Police Department released these surveillance photos in connection with a Sept. 22 assault on Main Street.

CORTLAND, N.Y. — An anonymous tip via Facebook to the City of Cortland Police Department led to the arrest of three people in connection with an assault that took place two weeks earlier.

At around 2:15 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 28-year-old Elijah J. Spear became involved in a physical altercation with a 23-year-old male in front of 65 Main Street. He kicked the man in the head, causing facial injuries that required surgery, according to Lt. Richard Troyer with the Cortland Police Department. A warrant was issued for Spear’s arrest and he was located Thursday.

Spear, of Cortland, was arrested Oct. 4 and charged with gang assault in the second degree, a class C felony, assault in the second degree, a class C felony, and conspiracy in the second degree, a class E felony.

Spear was arraigned in Cortland City Court and taken to the Cortland County Jail on $2,000 bail or $4,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 10.

Tamara Montgomery, 21, of Bronx, N.Y., was arrested Oct. 1 and charged with assault in the third degree, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, and conspiracy in the sixth degree, all misdemeanors. She was released on appearance tickets.

Olivia E. Jackson was arrested Oct. 4 and charged with harassment in the second degree, a violation, and conspiracy in the sixth degree, a misdemeanor.

A fourth person that was pictured in surveillance photos has yet to be identified and arrested, police said.
