Cortland could see record high temperatures this week

CORTLAND, N.Y. — Summer-like temperatures will grace the Cortland area this week before cool, autumn weather returns by the end of the week.

Southerly winds are sending warmth and moisture northward into the Northeast. These conditions will cause temperatures to reach near 80 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday.

Following this hot streak, a cold front will arrive Thursday along with another round of rainfall. Rainfall totals are expected to average around a half inch to an inch. Rain will diminish by Thursday afternoon, and high temperatures on Friday will drop down to the lower 50s.

Looking ahead to the weekend, forecasters are predicting partly sunny skies with a chance for showers on Saturday, with highs in the upper 40s. Temperatures will creep up slightly on Sunday, with highs forecast in the lower 50s.
