CORTLAND, N.Y. — A Cortland man was charged with driving while intoxicated following a crash on McLean Road in the town of Cortlandville Wednesday.

At around 1:20 p.m., officers responded to a one-car motor vehicle crash on McLean Road, near Lime Hollow Road.

The driver, 30-year-old David W. Smith, was traveling east on McLean Road when he crossed over into the oncoming lane of traffic, went off the roadway and down an embankment before becoming entangled in several trees and brush.

Smith was not injured in the crash, but he was found to be driving a motor vehicle while his ability was impaired by drugs, authorities said.

Smith was arrested, processed, and later arraigned in Cortlandville Town Court, where he was released. He was charged with misdemeanors of driving while ability impaired by drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
