Cortlandville man charged with DWI four times the legal limit
Around 10 a.m. Wednesday, state police in Homer received several complaints from drivers on Interstate 81 that a vehicle traveling northbound was unable to maintain a lane, at times coming to complete stops on the highway and then speeding up.
A trooper located the vehicle in Cortlandville, which was crossing between both lanes.
Police initiated a traffic stop and an investigation revealed that the driver, 38-year-old Matthew T. Shimer, of Cortlandville, was intoxicated.
Shimer was charged with a misdemeanor of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a reported B.A.C. of .29 percent. He was arrested and turned over to a sober third party.
Cortland man charged with DWI in Groton
At around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, a state trooper monitoring traffic on McLean Road in Groton observed a driver speeding and failing to stop at a stop sign.
An investigation revealed that 48-year-old Shannon A. Lateer, of Cortland, was driving while intoxicated.
Lateer was charged with a misdemeanor of driving while intoxicated with a reported B.A.C. of .11. He was also issued traffic tickets.
Lateer was arrested and released to a sober third party. He is scheduled to appear in Groton Town Court on Oct. 24, 2018.
