Cincinnatus girls soccer team advances to state tournament

CORTLAND, N.Y. — The Cincinnatus girls soccer team will advance to the state tournament after defeating Poland on penalty kicks in the championship game of the Section III Class D girls soccer tournament.

With the score tied at 0-0 after regulation, the Cincinnatus Lions defeated Poland after winning on penalty kicks. Both teams were declared Class C co-champions.

This is the Cincinnatus girls' soccer team first-ever Section III Class D title.

Cincinnatus will play against an opponent from Section IV at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Herkimer County Community College.

Delaney Rutan, Miranda Wolf, and Montana Wolf each scored goals on penalty kicks in the shootout.

Cincinnatus will next play at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at Herkimer County Community College against an opponent from Section IV.

Meanwhile, the Cincinnatus boys soccer team will face Poland in the Section III Class D Tournament championship game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
