Cortland men's hockey gets SUNYAC win at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Cortland men's hockey team opened up a 2-0 lead early in the second period and held off Brockport for a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons improved to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the conference, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 7-3-1 and 2-3-1.

Junior Douglas Elgstam (Stockholm, Sweden/New Jersey Rockets) and freshman Shane Beaulieu (Brooklyn, ON/Powassan VooDoos) each netted a goal for Cortland. Junior Stefano Alonzi (King City, ON/Burlington Cougars) and freshmen Oliver Lester (Calgary, AB/Prince George Spruce Kings) and Mike Sciore (Syracuse/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) collected one assist apiece. Junior goalie Nick Modica (Suffern/New Jersey Hitmen) registered 29 saves.

Ryan Romeo tallied Brockport's goal off assists from Corey Tam and Connor Hutchins. Goalie Jake Moore stopped 22 shots.

Beaulieu gave Cortland an early lead, scoring his third goal of the season 2:59 into the game. Elgstam then notched his first goal of the season just 51 seconds into the second period. Romeo scored on the power play for Brockport at 6:40 of the second to make it a 2-1 game.

Cortland killed off two Brockport power plays in the third period and earned a late power play that prevented Brockport from pulling Moore for an extra skater as the Red Dragons clinched the road win.
