Burglary suspects sought
State police are searching for two women accused of stealing two bags of items on Dec. 15 from Kinney Drugs Store at 3666 Rt. 281 in Cortlandville. The pair were described as black women in their 20’s or 30’s and were seen driving a gray Nissan Versa hatchback, according to police. Those with any information about the theft are urged to contact State Police in Homer at (607) 749-1600 and refer to incident number 8644871.
Cortland man arrested on harassment charges
Name: Michael L. Smiley, 34, of 12 Water St., Cortland
Charges: Endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation
Details: Smiley argued and fought with a 14-year-old girl, kicking her in the ribs when she was on the ground, at about 2:40 p.m. on Dec. 14 on the sidewalk in front of 190 S. Main St., said city police Lt. Rick Troyer. The girl was did not require medical attention after the fight, Troyer said. A warrant was issued for Smiley and he was arrested at 12:45 p.m. on Dec. 20 in the city, according to police. Smiley was released to appear Jan. 16 in City Court.
Gas station employee accused of stealing $1,000
Name: Kaden D. Marshall, 18, of 13 Cayuga St., Homer
Charges: Fourth-degree grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records, felonies
Details: Marshall stole money and merchandise worth a total of more than $1,000 between Nov. 29 and Dec. 11 while working for the the Speedway gas station at 31 S. West St., according to the Homer Village Police Department. Marshall also falsified business records during that time, police said. The incidents were reported to police Dec. 13 and Marshall was arrested at 11:45 a.m. Dec 14 at the police station, 43 ½ James St., Homer, according to police. Marshall returned some of the stolen items and cooperated with the investigation, police said. Marshall was released and is set to appear at 4 p.m. Jan. 15 in Homer Town Court.
Woman took package from porch, police say
City police are seeking information about the Thursday theft of a package from the front porch of a North Main St. residence. A woman wearing a long, dark coat and driving an older model Mitsubishi Outlander is suspected of taking the parcel at about 11:35 a.m. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Cortland Police Department at 753-3001.
