Cortland man charged with drug possession

Name: Charles E. McCloskey, 37, of 5 Loope St., Cortland

Charges: Three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanors.

Details: When a state parole officer conducted a home visit about 3 p.m. Tuesday at McCloskey’s residence, the officer discovered small amounts of bath salts, cocaine and suboxone, said city police Lt. Rick Troyer. Suboxone is a narcotic painkiller that is also used to treat chemical dependency, but is illegal to have without a prescription, Troyer said. McCloskey was sent to the Cortland County Correctional facility without bail and is set to appear Monday in City Court.

Two teens accused of using stolen debit card

Name: Christopher C. Vanderpool, 18, of 217 Port Watson St., Cortland

Charges: Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor

Details: Vanderpool stole a vehicle around 10 p.m. Monday from a residence on Port Watson Street and was found driving the vehicle about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday on Court Street, according to city police. Vanderpool was arrested and released to appear at a later date in City Court.

Two teens accused of using stolen debit card

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office arrested two defendants between the ages of 16 and 19 on Monday afternoon at their Port Watson Street, Cortland, home for using a stolen debit card at various locations for about a month, according to police. The pair were known to the victim, according to a press release issued Tuesday afternoon. Each was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor, police said. After an arraignment in Cortlandville Town Court, the defendants were ordered to report to Cortland County Alternatives to Incarceration and scheduled to return at 11 a.m. Feb. 4 to the town court.

Homer man charged with DWI

Name: Edward L. Hiscox, 40, of 21 Cherry St, Homer

Charges: Driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content at or above 0.08 percent, and aggravated driving while intoxicated, misdemeanors; failure to keep right, a violation

Details: Hiscox was arrested about 3:00 a.m. Sunday after he was pulled over on Homer Avenue for failing to keep right and was found to be intoxicated, according to city police. Hiscox was released and is set to appear Jan 23 in City Court.

DWI charge for Tully woman

Name: Brianna E. Groth, 27, of 1938 Rt. 11, Tully

Charges: Operating a motor vehicle with blood alcohol content above .08% and driving while intoxicated as a first offense, misdemeanors, as well as an improper turn, a violation

Details: Groth was arrested at 2:32 a.m. Saturday after she was pulled over for making an improper left-hand turn from Main Street to Port Watson Street and found to be intoxicated, according to city police. Groth was released and is set to reappear at 9 a.m. Jan. 23 in City Court.
