Broome County man charged with rape, burglary in 2018 sexual assault case

CORTLAND, N.Y. – A Broome County man has been arrested following a lengthy investigation into a reported sexual assault that occurred in the City of Cortland last year.

Christopher E. Grant, 36, of Lisle, was arrested Tuesday afternoon. He faces charges of first-degree rape and second-degree burglary, both felonies.

The arrest came after a police investigation into a sexual assault incident that occurred at an apartment on Monroe Heights in Cortland on Sept. 9, 2018.

Grant is accused of unlawfully entering a 20-year-old woman’s apartment and assaulting her, according to Lt. Richard Troyer with the Cortland Police Department.

Grant was arraigned in Cortland City Court and taken to Cortland County Jail without bail. His next court date was not known at the time of this release.
