Tractor trailer crash shuts down Route 11 in Marathon

MARATHON, N.Y. — Traffic was backed up on Route 11 for several hours Tuesday night after a tractor trailer became stuck on the highway.

Shorty before 6 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to Route 11 South in the village of Marathon for a tractor trailer that was blocking both lanes of travel.

Christopher Hickey, of Syracuse, was driving a 2013 Land Air Express tractor trailer on the highway when he attempted to turn into El Wood Braiding, located at 554 Route 11, when the truck's transmission began malfunctioning, according to Lt. Karl Altmann with the sheriff's office.

The trailer rolled back into the roadway blocking both lanes of traffic. Route 11 was closed for about 1 and a half hours to allow Ron's Auto to remove the vehicle.

There were no injuries reported, and no citations were issued because of the incident, Lt. Altmann said.
