CORTLAND, N.Y. — The first round, written phase, of the Cortland Youth Bureau’s 55th Annual Spelling Bee has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, February 6th, at 3:30pm in the LGI room at Cortland Junior-Senior High School.

All sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students residing in Cortland County or attending a Cortland County school are eligible to take part. Each participant’s name will be entered in a drawing to win a new I-pad.

The top ten students from the written phase of the Spelling Bee will become the finalists in the oral phase of the Bee. Each finalist will receive a Webster’s Dictionary and will compete for the following prizes: First Place, $800 toward a college-savings fund or laptop computer voucher; Second Place, a $250 savings bond; and Third Place, a $100 savings bond. In addition, the winner will have his or her name inscribed on a plaque which will be displayed in their school’s trophy case for one year.

Students participating in the written examination should bring a good pen and pencil to the test. Test paper will be supplied.
