Dryden man dies after being struck by vehicle, police say

DRYDEN, N.Y. — State police are investigating a car-pedestrian crash that resulted in the death of a Dryden resident Tuesday night.

Troopers were called to Turkey Hill Road near Stevenson Road in the hamlet of Varna shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, members of the Varna Fire and Rescue team were already assisting the victim and performing CPR, police said.

An investigation determined that a 54-year-old Dryden man, whose name has not been released, was pushing a bicycle along the north side of Turkey Hill Road when he was struck by a vehicle that was also traveling north.

Police said the driver was a 25-year-old woman from Ithaca, whose name has also not been released.

A preliminary investigation determined the 54-year-old was walking in the lane of travel and left of the fog line, not along the shoulder, state police said. The man was wearing dark clothing and walking along a section of the road that was not lit, authorities said.

The female driver is cooperating with investigators, police said. No tickets have been issued, but police say they plan to continue their investigation.
