Two minors charged in burglary of Cortlandville church

CORTLAND, N.Y. — An arrest has been made in connection with a burglary incident that happened at the Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Cortlandville in September of last year, the Cortland County Sheriff's Office said.

The church was burglarized on Sept. 10, 2018, after two juveniles—whose names have not been released—entered the church during operating hours through a locked door. While inside, they stole a "religious vessel," as well as food items, according to Sgt. Anthony Phelps with the sheriff's office.

The teens were identified and arrested on Feb. 1, 2019.

The 18-year-old was charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony; fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony; fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor; fifth-degree conspiracy, a misdemeanor; petit larceny, a misdemeanor; and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. The 16-year-old was charged with burglary, grand larceny, criminal mischief, conspiracy, and petit larceny.

The older teen was jailed on $5,000 cash bail, while the 16-year-old was released. Their next court appearance in Cortlandville Town Court is pending.
