High wind warning issued for Cortland County

Strong, damaging winds develop later today and continue into Monday (National Weather Service, Binghamton, NY)

Temperatures could reach as high as 50 degrees today, but wind speeds will increase to the 30-40 mph range by late this afternoon.

A high wind warning will take effect at 1 p.m. and expire at 7 p.m. Monday. During this period, wind speeds could reach as high as 65 mph. Travel will be difficult.

With high winds also comes the greater likelihood of blown down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected, according to the National Weather Service. Peak wind speeds are expected to occur between 2 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday.
