April Teacher of the Month: Shari Powers, Homer Elementary School

Mrs. Shari Powers with her Pre-Kindergarten class at Homer Elementary School, Thurs., April 25, 2019 (Cortland Voice)

We are excited to share the news that this month's winner of the Cortland Voice Teacher of the Month Award is Shari Powers, a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at Homer Elementary School.

For her hard work and dedication, Powers received a complimentary gift basket courtesy of Edible Arrangements of Ithaca.

Powers was nominated by Gina Hiscox. Her nomination letter reads as follows:

Powers is both an amazing educator and person. She has taken our shy twin 4-year-olds and turned them into smart, outgoing and confident little people who amaze us every day with what they have learned from Mrs. Powers. Shari is so patient and positive with every one of her students. She wants every little person she works with to achieve success. When you walk in to her classroom, every child is engaged and happy, while simultaneously being allowed to express themselves and make choices for themselves. Shari's classroom is almost magical, and every time my husband and I get to witness the magic we are in awe of this special woman!

Nominations are still open for May. Visit our Teacher of the Month page to fill out a nomination form and vote for your favorite educator!
