May Teacher of the Month: Thomas Dovi, Randall Elementary School

We are excited to share the news that this month's winner of the Cortland Voice Teacher of the Month Award is Thomas Dovi, a second-grade teacher at Randall Elementary School.

For his hard work and dedication, Dovi received a complimentary gift basket courtesy of Edible Arrangements of Ithaca.

Dovi's nomination letter was submitted by Julie Kesler:

I would like to nominate Mr. Thomas Dovi for the Teacher of the Month.

Tom is in his 20th year of teaching and is currently a 2nd grade teacher at Randall Elementary School. He is well respected, loved, and admired by all of the students and staff. He is always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty. He often stays after school for special events, to meet with parents and to help out other staff. He also takes time out of his busy schedule to attend current and former students' games, concerts and events.

My son, who is now a 6th grader, still talks about how Mr. Dovi came to some of his football and baseball games. It truly means the world to a kid to see their teachers (former or current) sitting in the stands cheering them on.

This year has been an especially hard and challenging year for Tom. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in August, and has still made it to school on non-treatment weeks. He is very determined not to let his students or other staff down. His fight, determination, and strong will are the things that will get him over this hurdle in life, and others that he may face.

Thank you for this opportunity. It is very nice to recognize great teachers.
