Cortland man arrested

Accused: Robert L. Williams, 22, of 56 Owego St., Cortland

Charges: First-degree unlawful dealing with a child and endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanors

Details: Williams was arrested about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday for providing alcohol to a 16-year-old girl about 3 p.m. on May 5 near the plaza parking lot at 172 Homer Ave. Cortland, according to city police. The girl later became ill, police said. Williams was released after an arraignment in City Court and is set to appear in City Court at a later date.

Cortland firefighters perform elevator rescue

City firefighters, working at minimum staffing, answered more than twice the usual volume of calls from 10:55 a.m. to 4:18 p.m. Sunday, according to the department.

Most of the 13 calls over the 10 hours were emergency medical calls, said Capt. Colleen Price. In addition to the eight medical calls, firefighters responded to an unauthorized burn, an elevator rescue at the apartment building at 51 Port Watson St., one water problem, one public assisstant and one welfare check, Price said.

Firefighters were called to respond to three calls at the same time, prompting the six career firefighters to split into three crews, she said. Three times the firefighters split into two crews to respond to two calls at the same time.

The firefighters handled the high colume of calls professionally, Price said.

“These guys do a pretty good job, I would say,” Price said. “We have a pretty dedicated team here.”

DWI charge for Whitney Point woman

Accused: Trisha L. Campbell, 38, of Whitney Point

Charges: Driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, misdemeanors, as well as operating a motor vehicle without an inspection certificate, a traffic infraction.

Details: Campbell was arrested at 3:34 p.m. Saturday by State police after she was pulled over on Interstate 81 in Cortlandville, according to the agency.

Legal action: Campbell was released to a third party and was issued a ticket to appear at a later date in Cortlandville Town Court.

New Jersey man charged with DWI

Accused: Timothy E. Mendias, 57, 32 E. Meadow Green Circle, Manalapan, NJ

Charges: Aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content of 0.18 percent or more and driving while intoxicated, misdemeanors, as well as driving across hazard markings, failing to maintain a lane, driving too slowly/impeding traffic, and no/improper signal, violations.

Details: After receiving complaints of a tractor-trailer driving slowly and swerving between lanes, a Cortland County Sheriff’s officer pulled over Mendias about 12:56 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 81 near Exit 10 and found he was intoxicated, according to the department. Mendias was arrested, released to a third party and is set to appear at 2:30 p.m. on June 10 in Cortlandville Town Court.
