Cortland man arrested for felony DWI

Accused: Donald Carl Lovejoy, 58, of 66 Tompkins St., Cortland

Charges: Driving while intoxicated, a felony; aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, a felony; operating a vehicle without an interlock device, a misdemeanor; crossing hazard markings and inadequate muffler, a violation

Details: Lovejoy was arrested at around 10 p.m. Thursday after Cortland County sheriff's deputies stopped a vehicle on Route 13 in the town of Cortlandville for crossing over hazardous markings. Lovejoy was found to be intoxicated behind the wheel, according to Lt. Karl Altmann with the sheriff's office. He was arrested and charged with felony DWI for having a previous DWI conviction. He was arraigned in Cortlandville Town Court and is being held on no bail.

Locke man gave false name to avoid arrest, police say

Accused: Jeremy Schmutzler, 19, of 4780 Pierce Rd., Locke, NY

Charges: False personation, a misdemeanor

Details: Schmutzler was arrested at around 6 p.m. Monday on a bench warrant for failing to appear on charges of criminal trespass and petit larceny. In an effort to avoid arrest, Schmutzler provided officers with a false name and date of birth when questioned, according to Lt. Michael Strangeway with the City of Cortland Police Department. He was taken to Cortland County Jail with no bail set.

DWI arrest for Little York woman

Accused: Valerie E. Regard, 39, of 6240 Little York Lake Rd., Preble

Charges: Driving while intoxicated and criminal possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanors; consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle and refusal to take a breathalyzer test, violations

Details: Regard was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. Thursday after officers responded to the intersection of Little York Lake Rd. and Route 291 in the town of Homer for a female driver passed out at the wheel, the sheriff's office said. Regard was found to be intoxicated. She was arrested, processed and later arraigned in Homer Town Court before being released.
