After 36 years of service from John Shirley at SUNY Cortland, Nan Pasquarello has been selected to fill his shoes as director of career services.

Pasquarello has been an employee at the college for the past 24 years.

"I love working with students and alumni," said Pasquarello. "Working with them and helping them step into their careers is one of the things that I am most excited about."

Pasquarello has been the Title IX coordinator since 2015, where she worked to fight against sex discrimination based on gender identity and expressions. At its most extreme, it includes sexual assault.

"I did programs with students to prevent violence," said Pasquarello. "I also worked on response to students who needed assistance."

Pasquarello has previously worked as director of student conduct, as a career counselor and at the alumni affairs office early in her career.

Pasquarello has stated that she wants to work with the staff to market their new Handshake program, a national online platform for networking and job searching. Both students and alumni are able to sign up for it. Students can make appointments with career services through the platform and search for jobs, whether they are part time, on campus or off campus.

"Some people think of it as the Spotify or Netflix version of job search and networking platforms," said Pasquarello.

"There is already a very strong team here at career services," she added. "It's a privilege to step in and work with people on the team and provide leadership. Especially to continue the good work already being done. I hope I can be able to step into John's shoes and try to fill them."
