Ithaca firefighter, Cortland native dies at 36 from job-related cancer

The Ithaca Fire Department is mourning a tragic loss following the passing of firefighter Daryl Pace after firefighter, Daryl Pace, of Cortland NY, passed away this past Monday July 8th.

Pace, who was diagnosed with job-related cancer, passed away Monday, according to the department.

A Cortland native, the 36-year-old firefighter retired several months ago in order to spend more time with her family and friends, the department said.

Pace was a graduate of SUNY Cortland and Homer Central Schools. She had been part of the Ithaca Fire Department for the last 10 years.

"Daryl loved the fire service, helping the community and educating the youth," the department posted on its Facebook page. "Being at the firehouse is where she belonged. She was active in all aspects of the job and always wanted to be where the action was. Her energy and charisma will surely be missed."

A “Line of Duty” memorial service will be held in Pace's honor at Stewart Park in Ithaca on Wednesday, July 17, at 1 p.m.
