CORTLAND, N.Y. — The 2019 Healthy Cortland Innovative Readiness Training is underway in Homer New York. The Healthy Cortland and Chenango Cares events are running from July 12th through July 20th.

Innovative Readiness Training, or IRT is a partnership between Cortland County, The Department of Defense as well as several stakeholders in the local healthcare system. Innovative Readiness Training is a civil-military program that promotes mutually beneficial partnerships between U.S. communities and the Department of Defense (DoD) to meet training and readiness requirements for Active, Guard & Reserve Service Members and units, while addressing public and civil-society needs.

During the two week period trained doctors, dentists, optometrists, and veterinarians are at the Homer Intermediate/Junior High school in the Village of Homer where they are providing no cost services to the public. In 2016, the Healthy Cortland IRT event saw 1807 patients being seen by licensed and trained service providers with over 7,000 procedures being performed during those visits. The event saved participants a collective $851,426 during the two week period.

There are no income or geographic restrictions to participate in the Healthy Cortland IRT and participants can utilize services whether they currently have health insurance coverage or do not.
