Weekend of Events: 4 Things to do in Cortland County

There will be a variety of events happening this weekend around the Cortland County area, in which everyone from locals to non-locals will be able to enjoy.

1- 50th Anniversary of 1969, Lunar Landing and Flying Machines

On Friday July 19 and Saturday July 20, the city of Cortland is hosting a series of events, celebrating the 50 year anniversary the Lunar landing of 1969.

On Friday at 2p.m., the day will kick off with Tyler Beagle from the Central New York Observers and the Syracuse Astronomical Society will present, moon trivia at the Cortland Library.

Then, cos-play characters from "Guardians of the Galaxy," will be at Woodman's from 6 to 7 p.m. and at Central City from 7 to 8 p.m. performing hula-hoop challenges.

Then, on Saturday, one of the biggest events of the weekend will be the at the CNY Living History Center, celebrating the historic event.

With Matthew Abraham speaking and bringing the famous Apollo 11 mission to life on Saturday from 1-2 p.m.

Abraham serves as a pilot in the NY Air National Guard.

He is a NASA historian and a former history teacher, who has spent much time researching the Apollo missions launched by the United States.

2- Cortland Main Street Music Series

The Main Street Music Series will host their third free concert of the month from 5:30 until 9 p.m. at the city lot between 64 and 76 Main St.

The headline of the show will be "Enter The Haggis."

The show will however open up with the "Starmer Brothers," blending rock, jazz and blues music. Right after that, "The Old Main" will take the stage.

Gates will open at 5 p.m.

3- 11th Annual Cortland Aircraft

Things will start to pick up on Saturday at the 11th annual Cortland Aircraft at the Cortland County Airport from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It will be a free event, where aircrafts will be on display.

There will be a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. and people will be able to go for plane and helicopter rides for a price of $30, according to the Cortland Airfest website. 

4- Holiday in Homer

On Saturday starting at 8 a.m., the city of Homer will host their 36th annual arts and crafts festival at the Homer Village Green.

The event will last all day until 4 p.m.

Make your way through the Homer Village Green for a full day of  local shopping, food and live music.

There will be over 100 artisans and crafters people will be able to browse through.

Live music will feature the Crown City Brass at 10 a.m. and The Developments at 11:30 a.m.
