Juveniles charged after Walmart false shooting reports

Investigators from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office have identified two local juvenile suspects as the source of the phone calls that were made anonymously on Saturday evening (8/10/19) to the Walmart store located on Bennie Road in the Town of Cortlandville.

The initial report was that a Walmart employee had received two separate phone calls indicating a subject who was in possession of a gun had entered the store. Store employees then contacted the Cortland County 911 Center where the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by members of the New York State Police and the Cortland City Police Department.

Cortland County Sheriff’s Investigators have been able to determine through the investigation that this was an isolated incident.

Both juvenile defendants (names, ages and addresses will not be disclosed) will be petitioned to the Cortland County Probation Department for charges of Falsely Reporting an Incident in the 3rd Degree and Conspiracy in the 6th Degree.
