Police: City man arrested for raping 12-year-old girl

A city man is facing five felony charges for forcibly raping a 12-year-old girl, according to the Cortland Police Department.

Officers arrested Jack A. Blake Jr., 35, of 4 Pomeroy St., on the charges about 10 a.m. Wednesday at the police department following an interview, said Lt. Michael Strangeway. The department launched an investigation after receiving a recent report Blake attacked the girl in July 2018 at a Pomeroy Street residence, Strangeway said.

Blake is charged with physically forcing sexual intercourse with the girl relative and forcing the touching of sexual areas of the body, according to a news release and state law definitions.

The charges include two counts of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sex abuse and first-degree incest, all felonies, according to the news release. Blake was also charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

The girl did not sustain injuries in addition to the rape and did not receive medical treatment, Strangeway said.

Blake was arraigned in City Court and sent to the Cortland County Jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond bail, according to the department. He is set to reappear at 9 a.m. Aug. 28 in City Court.
