Delayed dismissal at Barry Primary on first day of school

Yesterday the staff at Barry Primary school in Cortland sent a voicemail to parents and families regarding a delayed dismissal due to dismissal changes on the first day of school.

"They didn't allow the parents in the school until after 3 p.m.," said an anonymous parent. "They had all the parents go into the cafeteria while all the kids were in the gym. All families were frustrated. Some yelling, little brothers and sisters crying. Students crying. They wanted all the parents to sign out in one spot."

The school asked parents to send in a note stating their preference for dismissal.

Their preference note would include if they would want their child to ride the bus or to be picked up by a parent.

Parents and families waited around 45 minutes for students to come out, according to an anonymous parent.
