Intoxicated Homer man arrested following a head-on car crash in Preble

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported two-car motor vehicle crash on Route 281 in the Town of Preble at around 9 p.m. this past Friday, September 6th.

Robert G. Burns, 62, of Homer NY, was traveling south on Route 281 in a 2013 Chevy pick-up truck when he crossed into the north bound lane of traffic and struck a vehicle traveling north being operated by Anthony Iozzo of Tully, head-on.

Mr. Iozzo’s vehicle went off the roadway, landing on its side.

Mr. Burns was found to be intoxicated and was arrested at the scene for driving while intoxicated. he was transported by ambulance to Upstate Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Mr. Iozzo was also transported along with two passengers from his vehicle, to Upstate Medical Center for minor injuries.

The Preble Fire Department, TLC Ambulance, Ron’s Auto, and CNY Towing all assisted with the investigation and scene clean up.

Mr. Burns is being charged with a Misdemeanor on Driving While Intoxicated along with two traffic infractions which include a Failure to keep right and for moving from the lane unsafely. He is scheduled to appear in Treble Town Court on September 24th at 6:00 p.m.
