Cultural Council of Cortland County First Friday: Regional Photography Exhibit

You may have noticed new art installations appearing in three different empty storefronts on Main Street Cortland over the past month.

Paintings featuring the juxtaposition of Cortland’s past and present have appeared at the old Mullen Office Outfitters; art featuring ceramics has materialized in The Beach House windows, and a new installation, “Hang Out Here,” will be popping into the windows at 35 Main Street by October 4. These installations, featuring the work of Nathan Loda, Lauren Nels, and Molly Reagan Andrejko respectively, were made possible by a CNY Arts in the Windows project, which was designed to activate urban spaces through temporary installations of art in storefronts.

On Friday October 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, visitors can come meet these artists during the Cultural Council of Cortland County’s First Friday. This will offer an opportunity to learn about each artist’s process and hear about the inspiration behind the works on display.

“We are very happy with the variety of options offered during this month’s First Friday,” notes Kat McCarthy, Cultural Council Executive Director. “Right downtown you can visit the Regional Photography Exhibit, meet artist participating in the CNY Arts in the Windows project, and view the exhibit at the YWCA. Nearby venues also include Cinch Art Space, the Dowd Gallery, Instant Artist and the 1890 House Museum.”

All are invited to visit one or multiple sites over the course of the evening. Hours for the event are typically from 5 to 8 p.m., though visitors should consult the event map or Cultural Council website for details about each participating venue.
