Weekend of events: What's going on around Cortland County?

With this being the first weekend of October, there will be a variety of events and activities happening at and around the Cortland County area for people to participate and enjoy.

Here are some of the events happening this weekend in Cortland County:

Chefs Take a Stand: Men Against Domestic Violence

With October being the National Domestic Violence Awareness month, the Aid to Victims of Violence organization at the YWCA of Cortland is hosting their 2nd annual Chefs Take a Stand: Men Against Domestic Violence this Friday October 4th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Male public figures of the community, such as Firefighters, Mayors of Cortland and Homer, and many more will be preparing sample dishes for guests to try during the event.

After everyone votes on their favorite dish, the winner will be rewarded with a purple apron, with purple being the color for Domestic Violence awareness.

Over 30-40 shops will be participating along with a photo booth, 50/50 raffles, and more.

Only 125 tickets will be sold and when they sell out, they sell out.

Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at the front desk of the YWCA. The event sold out last year, So don’t wait until last minute to get your tickets.

The Great Cortland PumpkinFest

This year’s Great Cortland PumpkinFest will be held this Saturday October 5th and Sunday October 6th at Courthouse Park. It will be two fun-filled days for the whole family to celebrate the harvest season and the talent of the area.

The festival will contain over a hundred local crafters & artisans, live performances, hayrides, food, and a pumpkin patch where people can pick pumpkins out.

The Great Cortland PumpkinFest, was recently named on the top 4 Fall Festivals in the USA Today 10 Best Reader's Choice Awards.

Festival Hours:

Saturday, October 5 - 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Sunday, October 6 - 10 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Cultural Council of Cortland County First Friday: Regional Photography Exhibit

With this being the first Friday of the month of October, the Cultural Council of Cortland County will be holding their monthly First Friday event, featuring the artistic work of several local artists.

Over the past month, there have been several artistic installations appearing on empty storefronts on Main Street Cortland.

On Friday October 4th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 pm, people can come meet these artists during the Cultural Council of Cortland County’s First Friday.

This will offer visitors an opportunity to learn about each artist’s process and hear about the inspiration behind the works on display.

The 2019 Trinity Valley Corn Maze

The Trinity Valley Corn Maze will be open this weeknd on both Saturday, October 5th and Sunday, October 6th. .

The Corn Maze has been opened since September 14th now.

Trinity Valley located on 2847 State Route 13 Cortland, NY 13045, is hosting this event on both Saturdays and Sundays until October 27th.

Saturdays will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It costs seven dollars per person, which includes various activities for the whole family to enjoy, such as the corn maze, hayride, tractor train rides, and access to all the playground and educational areas.

The Trinity Valley store and bakery will also be open throughout the day for shopping and fresh homemade baked goods,chili, hot dogs, chili, apple cider and much more.

Families will also be able to enjoy Trinity's mini-farm that includes goats, sheep, and baby calves.
