Cortland & McGraw Girls soccer teams advance to Sectionals Semi-Finals

Yesterday, Thursday, October 24th, both McGraw and Cortland Varsity girls soccer teams won their quarter final match-ups in order to advance to their individual Sectionals Semi-Finals.

Cortland Purple Tigers

The #4 seeded Cortland Purple Tigers went head-to-head against #5 seeded Watertown last night, where the Lady Tigers came out victorious with a (3-2) overtime win at home.

By the end of regulation time, the score was 0-0 with both teams having chances to score.

Going into the first half of overtime, Watertown were able to finally get on the board. Then by the beginning of the second half of overtime, Watertown made it 2-0 to get a more comfortable lead. However the Lady Tigers were not ready to give up.

As Cortland then went on to score three goals in a row with less than 10-minutes to go. The goals were scored by Jenicah Brown, Grace Call, and Soleil Gutchess who also had an assist. The other two assist came from Tori Cruz.

The Cortland Tigers will now be taking on #1 seeded Central Square at the Section III Class A Semi-Finals. The game will be held on Tuesday, October 29th at Chittenango High School. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.

McGraw Eagles

The #4 seeded and undefeated McGraw girls varsity soccer team defeated #5 seeded Belleville-Henderson (2-0) at home in order to advance to the Section III Class D Semi-Finals.

The Lady Eagles dominated the game and were able to put themselves on the board with two goals in the second half of the game with both Andrea May and Taylor Conklin scoring to make it 2-0.

The Lady Eagles will now be facing #1 seeded Poland at Chittenango High School on Wednesday, October 30th. The game will start at 5:30 p.m.
