Last night, the #5 seed Marathon girls soccer team took down #1 seed Schenevus (#2 in NYS) in a 4-1 victory.

The Olympians started the game off with many scoring chances that were taken away from offsides calls. But then with around 15-minutes remaining in the first half Marathon’s Delta Barber played a direct kick short to Brooke Tillotson sending a placed through ball to Brenna Keller who broke away from the defense to score in the upper left side of the goal to give Marathon a 1-0 lead.

Marathon then came out strong in the second half, scoring two quick goals in the first 5 minutes.

The first goal came from Delta Baber on a breakaway from a through ball by Brooke Tillotson. Four minutes later Barber took a shot from outside the right side of the box and put the ball in the left upper 90 of the goal.

The last goal scored by the Olympians came with 17 minutes left to give the Olympians a 4-0 lead, as Brooke Tillotson took a shot from the left side of the box.

Schenevus then scored their only goal of the game with 6:44 left on the game from a shot placed in the left side of the net by Autumn Jones.

Marathon finished the game with a total of 16 shots and two corners while Schenevus finished with a total of eight shots and three corners.

"The score of this game doesn’t necessarily reflect how hard both teams played in this game; Schenevus came into the game ranked #2 in the state only losing one game this season," stated Marathon head coach, Elizabeth Duncan. "That being said, Schenevus’s top scorer Angie Competiello did not play today due to injury, and they are a young squad and will be back next season. I’m proud of our girls for coming into today’s game with one goal in mind and fulfilling it. When preseason began on August 19th, I told the girls that our goal was to be playing soccer in November, and that would mean making it to the sectional title game. This has been a special season for our seniors, and I’m happy for them to be able to represent their school in the title game on Saturday."

Up next, the Lady Olympians will take on #2 seed Cherry Valley-Springfield on Saturday, November 2nd at the Oneonta Hall of Fame Fields. The time of the game is yet to be announced.
