Occupied Cortland School bus struck by an unknown object

According to the Cortland County Sheriff's Office, this morning, October 31st of 2019, officers began investigating an incident that occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Page Green Road near the intersection with Starr Road in the Town of Cortlandville.

Officers from the Cortland City Police Department were initially called by the Cortland City School District to investigate.

The investigation revealed that their school bus window was struck by an unknown object.

"The projectile itself did not enter the passenger compartment," stated Lt. Michael Strangeway in a press release this morning. "However, the projectile struck with sufficient force to cause a small amount of glass to shatter into the bus."

The tempered glass window did remain intact and it is not believed at this time that the object ever entered the cabin of the bus.

No students were injured during this incident and there is no cause to believe that any of the students in the Cortland Schools are in any danger at this time.

This investigation is still ongoing. Any witnesses who may have been in the area of Page Green and Starr Road on October 31st of 2019 at around 7:15 a.m. and can provide any information to assist with this investigation are urged to contact the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at (607)758-6151.
