Last night the #2 seed Homer varsity girls volleyball team defeated #3 seed Marcellus in the Semi-Final round of Sectionals and are now one win away from a Section III Championship title.

The Lady Trojans dominated Marcellus after winning in three straight sets (26-24), (26-24) & (25-19).

The Trojans had to put up an intense fight on the first two sets of the match. With both Homer and Marcellus going back and forth. However, the Trojans were able to come out victorious on those two sets, giving them a boost in the third set and therefore winning the match.

Both seniors, Izzi Wallace and Delaney Hartnett came out big with Wallace having a total of 29 digs and Hartnett with a total of 20 assists in the game.

The team ended the game with a total of 23 kills, 7 blocks, 82 digs, 23 assists and 7 aces.

"Huge win to make it back to the sectional finals once again" stated Homer head coach, Jeremy Cook. "So proud of how the girls battled, had to come back a few times tonight and have really showed focus and determination all season long. Marcellus really made us earn this one as they did the other 2 meetings this season. We played 4 of the 7 sets in the regular season were decided by just 2 points. Two sets tonight also decided by just 2 points. We have such a deep history with Marcellus and have faced them so many times in elimination style matches like this. We are very lucky and happy to end up on this side of it this time.  Kaia Hubbard and Allyson Natale again led the offense tonight, taking some time to get going but once they did they did a tremendous job. Izzi Wallace with a massive 29 digs and Caitlin Barber making some great serving runs and tough defense plays as well."

Up next the Lady Trojans will be playing against #1 seed Westhill this upcoming Saturday, November 9th at Fayetteville-Manlius high school for the Section III Class B Championships.

The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
