C'ville woman drove high with child in tow, police say

A Cortlandville woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon for driving while high with a child in her vehicle on the street where she lived, according to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.

Shana P. Allen, 39, of Highland Road, Cortlandville was arrested at 2:33 p.m. on Highland Road after a caller reported a vehicle that appeared to be driven by a drunken driver, according to a news release. When officers pulled her over on Highland Road, Allen resisted arrest, the release notes. Officers found her to possess a small amount of a drug, according to the charges included in the release. Information on what drug was found was not available this afternoon. 

Allen was charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle, as well as driving while ability impaired by a drug, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, endangering the welfare of a child, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, misdemeanors.

After an arraignment in Homer Town Court, Allen was sent to the Cortland County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond. She is scheduled to reappear at 4 p.m. Dec. 3 in Homer Town Court.

Three Charged with DWI

Accused: Matthew Mills, 30, of 29 Miller Street Cortland

Charges: first-degree driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with blood-alcohol content at or greater than 0.08 percent, misdemeanors; improper turn and passing a red light, violations.

Details: Mills was stopped about 11:25 p.m. Wednesday on River Street after making an improper turn and was found to drunk, according to Cortland Police Department. 

Legal action: Mills was released to appear on at 9 a.m. Dec. 11 in City Court.

Accused: Jada Chaires, 22, of 8 Chaffee Road, Dryden

Charges: Driving while intoxicated as a first offense and operating a motor vehicle with blood-alcohol content at or greater than 0.08 percent, misdemeanors

Details: City police stopped Chaires for having overly tinted windows at 2:59 a.m. on Thanksgiving on North Main Street and found she was drunk, according to the department.

Legal action: Chaires was released to appear at 9 a.m. on Dec. 11.

Accused: Travis J. Stewart, 40, of 21 Bardmore Terrace, Cortland

Charges: Driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent, and operating with a suspended registration, misdemeanors; consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, operating without insurance and second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, violations

Details: Officers investigated a vehicle stopped about 9:10 p.m. Tuesday on Kellogg Road in Cortlandville, determined it had a suspended registration and discovered the driver, Stewart, was drunk, according to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.

Legal action: Stewart was released to a third party and is set to return Dec. 9 in Cortlandville Town Court.
