Cortland varsity girls volleyball wins over Christian Brothers Academy in three sets

After a close five set win on the road against Chittenango, the Cortland varsity girls volleyball team came out to defeat Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) in three straight sets last night at home, improving their overall record to 4-0.

The Tigers had to put up an intense fight at the beginning of the first set, with both Cortland and CBA going at each other back and forth. However, the Tigers were able to get the best out of CBA after taking a big lead to win the set (25-13). This gave the Tigers an increase in momentum for the rest of the game.

After that, it was lights out for the Tigers. With them dominating the rest of the match and winning the following two sets (25-7) and (25-19).

"We just had a huge win last night (December 10th) against Chittenango in five (sets) and we got back from that game super late; so one of two things always happens, it's either girls are so tired that they come out rough or they are pumped from their last win," said Cortland head coach Cheri Olson. "I think tonight the girls were still living on a high and were ready to play."

Cortland senior Grace Call led the team with a total of 11 assists and 6 digs; while Kayci Olson led the Tigers in kills with a total of six kills throughout the game. Olson also contributed with three digs and one assist.

"I think that we were solid tonight," said coach Olson. "Everyone is doing their jobs. We are passing really well, we are digging to target and not just getting the ball up so our setter can move the ball around. We are using everybody offensively, not just our big hitters, and I think going forward we are just going to keep getting better."

Up next, the Tigers will be traveling to Onondaga Central on Friday, December 13th, as they will be looking for their fifth straight win of the season. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
