Last night, the Cortland varsity girls basketball team were able to come up with a great defensive win on the road over the Skaneateles Lakers (35-25).

The Lady Tigers seemed to struggle to get their offense going early in the game. However, Cortland was then able to get into rhythm late in the second quarter after scoring six straight points to cut the Lakers' lead to five (13-18).

The Lady Tigers would then come out to dominate the second half both defensively and offensively by outscoring the Lakers 22-7.

"We came out much better in the second half, as our defensive intensity picked way up and we were more efficient on the offensive end of the floor," Cortland head coach Nolan Sinclair stated. "We moved the ball much better in the second half and we were much more deliberate with our post entry passes. Defensively we worked extremely hard in both the full court and the half court. Paige Ludwig had a huge game for us tonight. She played very well on both ends of the floor."

Ludwig ended the game with a total of 12-points with 11 of them coming from the second half. Ludwig also had five rebounds and two steals throughout the game.

"Playing on the road is never easy and getting a win over a program like Skaneateles is always nice," said coach Sinclair. "The Skaneateles team is well coached and they always work very hard. We are excited to get to 4-1 on the year and look forward to our non-league match-ups with Carthage and Watertown on Friday and Saturday."

Up next, the Lady Tigers will be going head to head against Carthage at home on Friday, December 20th. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
