Cortland Weather Outlook: Friday, December 20

Your Finger Lakes Weather forecast for Cortland and the surrounding areas for Friday, December 20, 2019:

High pressure will build into the region today, bringing quiet but still rather cold weather.

After a few lingering lake effect clouds this morning, skies should turn clear and sunny for the midday and afternoon hours. A deck of thin clouds will eventually work in from the west, but they should not arrive until after sunset.

Beneath the high pressure, winds will be light. A north wind of just 3-7 mph with gusts to 15 mph will scarcely be noticeable.

The sunshine will be a bit deceiving though with highs struggling to get out of the teens once again today. A couple places may just get to 20 degrees, but no warmer.

A quick drop in temperature is expected this evening, but as the clouds roll in, that should slow the free fall down. Temperatures will rapidly fall into the single digits, then have a slower drop to near or just below zero overnight.

Here is a look at the weather forecast for the next several days:

Saturday: Clouds linger for the first half of the day, but then it turns sunny. No snow expected. Morning lows near or just below zero. High temperatures get close to 30 degrees

Sunday: Lots of sunshine with no precipitation. Temperatures start in the teens. Afternoon highs near 40 degrees.

Monday: More sunshine. Temperatures start around 20. Afternoon highs into the low 40s.

Tuesday: Cloudy but dry. Temperatures start near 30 and rise to the mid 30s.
