Cortland Weather Outlook: Tuesday, December 31

Your Finger Lakes Weather forecast for Cortland and the surrounding areas for Tuesday, December 31, 2019:

Snow is back in the forecast for the final day of the year, though accumulations will remain minor.

The first part of the day will generally just be cloudy. A few spits of rain, some drizzle, and a flurry or two will all be possible from time to time. None of the precipitation should be heavy.

Toward the midday hours, we will have our best chance for some breaks of sunshine. During this time, temperatures will peak in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees.

By the mid-afternoon, clouds will thicken back up and snow will move in from the west. Several hours of snow are likely with a few heavier bursts embedded with the more widespread area of snow.

Temperatures will still be in the mid 30s at this time, so the snow will be slow to accumulate. Higher elevations will have the best chance for a slushy inch or so.

Widespread snow will transition to on and off flurries for New Year’s Eve. Little if any additional accumulation is expected.

Evening temperatures will slide into the upper 20s for the evening and through midnight.

Winds for the first part of the day will be between 5-10 mph from the south. During the afternoon and evening, winds will turn to the southwest and increase to 10-15 mph with gusts to 25 mph.

Here is a look at the weather forecast for the next several days:

Wednesday: A few flurries from time to time. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 30s.
